Ualgoritmo - scientific journal

The scientific journal Ualgoritmo, initially called Ciência UAlg, is a project of the Algarve University in partnership with the Centro de Ciência Viva. Its mentor, Prof. Dr. José Bragança, from Biomedical Sciences, devised an online Journal whose purpose would be to present to the general, non-scientific, public the science that is done at the Algarve University.

As an intern designer at the Communication and Protocol Office of the Algarve University, I had the opportunity to create the identity of this nice project.

The loose line was the concept I adopted to create the journal's visual identity. With this trait I created two main characters transversal to science, the teacher in a white coat and the ‘crazy’ scientist. I also created a series of complementary elements based on references from the science world: the atom, molecule, paramecia, amoeba, microscope, onion cells, periodic table, Einstein relativity theory, Gaussian curve, eureka, mitosis etc. The drawings were made, mostly, first in pencil and then passed to vector using Adobe Illustrator.
